Here is an example of where a database helps a website greatly: Imagine owning a store and you have 1,000 different products for sale and you would like to list every one of those products online. To make sure your pages are efficient and fast loading you decide you only want to display 20 products on each page. This means your website would have at least 50 pages. It is a lot of work to create 50 web pages, with a database you don't have to. All you have to do is create one page, and then dynamically reload the data on that one page for each set of 20 products.
